Carthage is the county seat of Moore. It is the center of the county government, courts and many businesses. The Courthouse Square is the center of downtown. The Carriage factory was the dominant industry for nearly 70 years. It provided buggies that were sold throughout the United States until 1925. Carthage celebrates this era with an annual Buggy Festival.
