Seven Lakes Population: 4,500
Type of government: Two Landowners Associations, Business Guild, and Civic Group.
This is the largest unincorporated community in Moore County. It is the result of the vision of developer, Fred Lawrence. In the early 1970s his partnership purchased 1,100 acres of rolling hills and pine trees on N.C. 211. The roads were paved and streams dammed to create the first seven spring-fed lakes. Originally meant to be a weekend community and summer resort, Lawrence’s vision included boating, swimming, horseback riding and social activity. He also created a business village to provide services to the homeowners. As the North side grew a companion development was begun on the south side. In 1979, the area on the west side was begun and an 800 acre spring-fed lake was created. A semi-private golf and tennis club, Beacon Ridge is also located on the west side.
